BOURBONNAIS, IL – Big news from Ford Motor Company out of Canada Recently. It was announced that the Oakville Assembly plant now sends no operational waste-to-landfill! That means Ford Motor Company is now landfill-free at all it’s manufacturing facilities in Canada.
“Ford is very proud that all its Canadian manufacturing facilities are sending zero waste to landfill,” said Joe Hinrichs, president of the Americas. “We are expanding our manufacturing footprint in Oakville while decreasing our environmental footprint.”
In 2012 the Essex engine plant received landfill-free status and in 2013 the Windsor engine plant also received the status. By Ford’s stringent definition this means that those facilities do not send any operational waste to a landfill.
“Reducing waste is a crucial part of our strategy toward building a world-class manufacturing system,” said Anthony Hoskins, director of manufacturing. “We are leveraging the power of our Ford Production System by applying standard waste reduction processes across our facilities.”
Oakville Assembly is Ford’s largest manufacturing plant in Canada standing at close to 5.5 million square feet on 487 acres. Oakville Assembly manufactures the Ford Edge, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKX and the Lincoln MKT. In 2013, Ford announced a $700 million investment to transform Oakville Assembly into an advanced global manufacturing facility. The plant will manufacture the all-new 2015 global Edge and ship it to more than 60 countries.
