2017 Ford F-150 Raptor: What You Need to Know

Two weeks ago at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), Ford announced several new performance models to round out their already impressive line-up of vehicles.  Among the new announcements was a return of an old favorite; the F-150 Raptor.  Originally introduced in 2010, the Raptor has become one of the most popular and sought after F-150s on the market.

The Raptor was designed to be a “desert runner” and was built with desert and off road conditions in mind.  Upon the Raptor’s release, something unexpected happened and Raptors started showing up all over the United States, and they even became popular internationally!  The message to Ford was clear; people enjoyed the style, feel, and attitude the Raptor brought to the table.  Whether they were going off-road, or braving the urban jungle, the Raptor was a legitimate sensation among F-150 and pickup enthusiasts.

Continuing the legacy the Raptor began in 2010, the newly announced 2017 Raptor will have an impressive list of standard and optional features.  At the forefront is the new high output 3.5L v6 Eco-boost® engine which provides more horsepower and torque than the current v8 engine. (For those who doubt, check out last week’s blogimages on the Eco-boost® and v8 engines).  The Raptor will also utilize the military grade aluminum developed for the 2015 F-150, and will make the Raptor up to 500 pounds lighter than the previous models.  This weight difference, alongside the new engine, will make the 2017 Raptor a sleek, powerful, and all around more efficient truck than the previous models.  The new Raptor will also wield  Fox Racing Shox™, 17’ BF Goodrich™ all terrain tires developed SPECIFICALLY for the Raptor, and a dual exhaust system.  Another new and interesting standard feature is the new terrain management system, which will function much like the current intelligent 4WD on many of Ford’s current models.

On top of the already impressive standard features, Ford has already announced several optional features to make sure customers get the most out of their new Raptor.  Optional LED lighting will add another dimension to the Raptor’s already unique appearance.  Select Raptors will also be sporting the new 360 Degree camera that was introduced on the new 2015 F-150’s.  Another great option will be the “imposing” tailgate which will showcase a giant Ford logo to make the Raptor stand out even more among its competitors.

With all these new and amazing standard and optional features, we cannot wait for Fall 2016 to come around so we can have a 2017 Raptor of our own.
