February 14th is the first day of the 2015 Chicago Auto Show. Each year the auto show is a chance for car manufacturers to showcase their newest models and concept cars. Last year, Ford introduced the new 2015 Mustang which won “Best production vehicle” at the 2014 show. Every make and model imaginable is on display, from domestic car companies like Ford, Chevy, and Dodge, to foreign manufacturers like BMW, Hyundai, Subaru, as well as luxury companies like Aston Martin and Ferrari.
Originally started in 1901, the Chicago Auto Show has tracked over 100 years of automobile history. The original admission was 50 cents, and included an indoor racetrack to give people a close up view of the “horseless carriage” (a car was still a rare thing to see in 1901). The show has run every year since 1901 (except during WW2). The Chicago Auto Show moved to McCormick Place in 1961 where it has been held ever since. Today, show is the largest car show in the nation.
Ford Motor Company will be at the Chicago Auto Show this year in full force. All of Ford’s models will be present from the Fiesta to the F-150. Two of Ford’s highly anticipated vehicles will also be making their premier at the show; The Ford GT and the GT 350 Mustang. The Ford GT will showcase its tear drop aircraft inspired fuselage and visibility-enhancing curved windshield. Every part of the GT is designed to minimize drag. The GT will also wield a 600+ Horsepower twin-turbocharged Eco-Boost® v6 engine, an active rear spoiler (which deploys depending on conditions), and a lightweight carbon fiber body. The GT350 Mustang will be showcasing a 5.2 Liter V-8 engine with 500 horsepower and 440lb-ft of torque and the most track credible brake system ever offered on a Ford vehicle in terms of absolute stopping power. On top of that, the GT350 will also have, custom Michelin Pilot super sport tires, specifically designed for the GT 350, Recaro leather trimmed sport seats, flat bottom steering wheel, Shaker Audio system, and an eight inch my Ford Touch LCD Screen. While all of Ford’s models will certainly be worth taking a look at, these two are certainly going to be drawing a great deal of attention.
