All the doubts and concerns can finally be laid to rest. The official government report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is in, and the New 2015 F-150 has a 5 star safety rating for the Regular Cab, Super Crew, and Super Cab configurations in both front and side collisions, for an overall rating of 5 stars. The NHTSA praised the new F-150’s aluminum body structure, joining methods, and the vehicle’s frame.
Many customers were concerned the new body and lighter weight of the F-150 would mean it would not be as safe as the older body style F-150’s. In fact the new F-150’s design makes it the safest F-150 yet. The engineers at Ford have used the aluminum body’s lightweight to the vehicles advantage when it comes to safety. For example, in a front collision, the front end will “wrinkle up” like an accordion. This means that all of the force of the crash is absorbed in the front of the vehicle and the passenger and driver are not exposed to the worst force and shock of the accident.
“To anybody that was skeptical, I don’t need to say anything else,” said Doug Scott, Ford’s truck group marketing manager, “The results speak for themselves.” Ford has announced over 31 safety improvements in the new F-150, and it is no surprise that the F-150 tested so highly. This is reassuring news because many F-150 enthusiasts were skeptical that the new aluminum body would stand up to the high standard of excellence that Ford has established with the F series trucks.
On top of this great news, are reports that the latest innovations will actually drive down insurance costs on the new F-150’s. Many people were concerned that the cost to repair the new aluminum panels would make collision repair costly and drive up premiums and other fees. The fact is that Insurance giants All State and State Farm have commented by saying “ease of reparability and insurance costs (are) in line with previous models and other full-size pickup trucks.” and “make and model (insurance premium) rate for the all-new 2015 Ford F-150 is in line with that of the 2014 Ford F-150.” Both companies also went on to state that much of the cost of insurance comes from liability and personal injury claims, and that the new F-150’s safety rating is going to have very positive effects on insurance premiums in the future.
For anyone who is concerned about safety when buying a truck, it is reassuring to know that the F-150 does not only meet but exceeds the governments minimum safety requirements. This ensures that not only is the F-150 the toughest, most reliable, and best selling truck in America for 32 years, but also the safest.
