Vehicle Spotlight: 2017 Ford Raptor

There is one week until The Chicago Auto Show and Ford is looking pretty impressive with the vehicles they’re rolling out this year. Not only will we have a chance to see the entire 2016 lineup, but Ford will also be showcasing the 2017 Ford GT and the newest edition of the Raptor (my personal favorite).

Let’s start off by looking at what we have under the hood in this years edition. Ford is boasting that the all new 3.5 Liter Ecoboost V6 is supposed to put the prior 6.2 Liter V8 to shame. Exact numbers are still somewhat up in the air, but the word is that the new and improve V6 will be very impressive. This years model will also be featuring a 10 speed transmission.

The body of the Raptor is now going to be made of aluminum alloy, saving approximately 500 lbs on the vehicle. The purpose of these new materials is meant to improve the power-to-weight ratio increasing the trucks agility off-road.

One of the most unique aspects of this vehicle is the Terrain management system. This offers 6 different options (Normal, Street, Weather, Mud and Sad, Baja, and Rock mode) depending upon the type driving performance desired.

One aspect that Ford is particularly proud of is the redesigning of the FOX racing shox that are featured on the vehicle. They have been increased in size from 2.5 to 3 inches in diameter improving all around performance.

The tires included on the 2017 Raptor are 35 inch BF Goodrich T/A KO2 all-terrains, combining these with the Terrain management system discussed above allows the driver take on limits only dreamt of prior.

Finally, we’re rounding out the new features on this years Raptor with two new available colors. In addition to Ingot Silver, Oxford White, Magnetic, Race Red, and Shadow Black. There will also be Avalanche Grey and Lightning Blue available.

If you’re as excited about the new Raptor as I am, make sure to stop by the Chicago Auto show at McCormick Place beginning Saturday, February 13th until Sunday, February 21st.
